If I ask you what to do to become healthy, then definitely you come up with some answers because you understand its meaning. Your answers are like we have to do some physical exercises, we have to eat healthy food and quit eating more fast foods. 

But the Actual meaning is Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. So now according to this definition you add some more habits like doing meditation or some mindfulness activity. 

So to adopt habits that make us Mentally strong, first we have to understand what exactly it means.

If you think that being Mentally strong means that everyone kneels in front of you, you are the leader of everyone, you fear no one and many more of the same definitions you make then you're wrong. 

From my perspective or learning Being a Mentally strong person means you know how to manage your mental strength, how to control your emotions so that your emotions don't influence your decisions. 

All the time thoughts are running into our mind, a few of them are positive and the rest are negative that derail our energy. Being a Mentally strong means that the right thought wins the war that is going on in your head, so you make appropriate decisions in your life. Being a Mentally strong means that you use your mental energy to add value in your life, Being Mentally strong means that you don't allow external factors to control you or your actions, Being Mentally strong means you don't allow anything to derail your energy, Being Mentally strong means you don't allow anyone to stole your happiness, Being Mentally strong means having a strong confidence.

5 habits that make you a Mentally strong person.


1. Pleasures don't control you

Today everyone is controlled by the pleasures that the internet offers or their environment. We spend our maximum time or our energy in doing useless things like using the internet and consuming useless information, watching useless web series or movies that only waste our time. Then still we are doing it because we are controlled by those pleasures that we get when we do these things. And then all the time we are seeking this pleasure and this is one of the major reasons why we lose interest in our job and in our work. We don't get the same pleasure that we get when we use Social media or watch a web-series when lying in bed. All these habits will derail your mental energy and your productivity.

You are so in control of these pleasures that you can't even make a small decision to restrict that application during your working hours. 

In his book Dopamine detox the author discusses the same concept and figures out  why we procrastinate to do our work?

Because we are in control of these pleasures. And the only way to get out of this zone is to start controlling your own pleasure. 

An idiot is not a person who knows nothing, but an idiot is a person who knows very well but still procrastinates to take action. So don't be in control of these immediate pleasures, focus on your goals that give you permanent pleasure. 


2. SEEK DISCOMFORTABLE

Mia Hamm, the greatest female soccer star of her time, says that Today I achieved all this because I challenged myself to play with players older, bigger, more skillful, more experienced and who are better than me. And then I was improving faster than I ever dreamed possible. 

Did you notice that Mia does a different thing apart from his practice? She never practices in her comfort zone, she always chooses better opponents to practice because she knows that this is the only way to  extraordinary growth. 

Tell me your experience when you went to a stage for a speech or a presentation. And tell me your experience when you discuss anything among your friends. In the first experience definitely you feel uncomfortable and you feel comfortable when you're discussing with your friends. Now the point is which activity helps you to grow in your career, which activity makes you feel more confident, definitely the first. 

When you work in your comfort zone then you're getting weak, but to get stronger or more confident you have to work or learn to deal outside your comfort zone. 

And confidence is the most important factor to become Mentally strong. 


3. AVOID THINGS YOU CAN'T CONTROL 

If you are a Mentally weak person then you easily get disappointed or frustrated, because maybe something wrong happens with you or sometimes you assume that wrong things happen to you. 

During our day we perform a lot of tasks, meet with a number of people and face different experiences. And you know what disappoints us the most is that we try to control everything around us and that is impossible. 

In the Bhagwat Geeta, Krishna says to Arjuna that you can control only your actions, the results are not in your control and when you try to control the results then you face disappointments and you get frustrated. 

So the lesson is that we have to understand what is in our control and what are the things that we can't control. Mentally strong people don't use their energy on those thighs that only derail their energy. 


4. DON'T TRY TO PLEASE EVERYBODY 

Mentally strong people understand the importance of their time and their energy, They understand that they have limited time and energy. So they don't use their energy to please everybody. 

Definitely this also happens when you indulge in a debate with your friend or someone to convince him that you are right. You do this to prove yourself strong but in reality you're doing the opposite, because the person who easily gave his precious hours or energy to someone without any purpose, is a strong person or a weak person. Definitely a weak person whose actions are in the control of others. 

Once a person asks a question to a wise man, "what is the secret to happiness?"

The wise man replies, "Never argue with fools", then the person again says that I disagree with you and the wise man says very politely that "yes, you're right". 

He is wise because he does not use his energy or spend his time to convince the person about his view. 

So be a person who is bulletproof to gossip and opinions, because it's not your duty to explain to people what is right or what is wrong. And why not you try so much but still the chances are more that you don't change anyone's opinions. So don't reply to everyone's opinions. 

You have to differentiate between what requires silence, what requires an answer and what requires an explanation. 


5. DON'T BE A WEAK

The Best thing that can make you Mentally stronger is doing Hard Things. Wake up at 5 A.M. , do some physical exercises, focus on your work and avoid things that easily get anyone's attention. 

You have to develop the muscles of your brain to become Mentally stronger. The scary thing is  when you give up, when you don't follow your own decisions, you stay in bed and don't do push-ups because it's difficult to wake up in the early morning, and get easily attracted to useless things. All these things make you a weak Person. 

Always remember that you are the only person who is responsible for your victory or defeat. Every time when you give up doing strong things, you're giving yourself a slow poison that will slowly destroy your abilities. Every time you decide to increase your fun time like surfing the internet, watching useless or vulgar things and decrease your working time, you're making yourself weak. 

This is proved by research that today's youth spend more than 70% of their time in front of a screen(Smartphone, TV, computers), and they slowly get attracted to them. And then after some time he gets used to it and he doesn't even know when he deviated from his purpose or goal.  And who can be weaker than this who does not realize when he has been diverted from his goal.

Always remember this - That internet doesn't cost a few dollars, it costs your valuable time.
